Three get death for Mirzapur triple murder (Uttar Pradesh)

On Thursday, Sangam, Puddi and Sanjay Dubey, who are lodged in Mirzapur district jail since after arrest, were brought to the court. Haleem and Khunni were already out on bail.

A local court in Mirzapur has awarded death sentence to three people, two of them brothers, for killing three members of a family over a land dispute. The victims were shot dead in their house at Amravati village in Vindhyachal police station area on April 24, 2011. “Special Judge Prakash Nath Srivastava found the case rarest of rare and awarded death sentence to Sangam Pasi, his elder brother Puddi Pasi and their neighbour Sanjay Dubey in the case. The court acquitted two other accused —- Khunni alias Ram Prasad and Haleem —- giving them benefit of doubt,” said government counsel K K Pandey. On Thursday, Sangam, Puddi and Sanjay Dubey, who are lodged in Mirzapur district jail since after arrest, were brought to the court. Haleem and Khunni were already out on bail.

Pandey added that eight prosecution witnesses including complainant of the case Sheela Devi, who is wife of one of the deceased and also eyewitness in the case, were examined by the court. According to prosecution, Sheela Devi, wife of the deceased Brij Lal Maurya (45), had stated in the FIR that at the night of April 24, 2011, Sangam, Puddi and Sanjay entered their house, and fired indiscriminately killing her husband, son Nagendra (15) and father-in-law Chulbul Maurya (70). She had also stated the the accused were looking for her younger son Ram Bali (13) too but he escaped the attack. Two weeks later, the accused were arrested.
