NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the execution of two condemned prisoners who were awarded death for sexually assaulting young girls before killing them. A CJI T S Thakur-led bench issued notices to the Maharashtra and Delhi governments on appeals by the two convicts -Prakash Nishad from Mumbai and Vinod from Delhi.
The death sentence awarded to Nishad was confirmed by the Bombay HC when it found proof to uphold conviction for raping, sodomizing and brutally murdering a six-year-old girl in 2010. In the case relating to Delhi, a 19-year-old girl working in Gurgaon's Cyber City was abducted by three men in a car near her house in Qutub Vihar, gangraped and murdered on February 9, 2012. Her mutilated body was found three days later from a Rewaru field. Tests revealed the men had poured acid into the victim's eyes and inserted a broken liquor bottle into her private parts.
