Ranchi court awards death sentence to man for triple murder (Jharkhand)

Ranchi, Jul 13 (PTI) A court here today awarded death sentence to a man for killing his father, step mother and step brother in 2014.

The court of additional judicial commissioner Rajiv Anand had convicted Nitesh Kumar Sahu for the triple murder on July 10 and today pronounced that he should be hanged till death. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on Sahu. On the intervening night of July 12 and 13, 2014, Sahu axed his father Shivnandan Sahu, step mother Kunti Devi and five-year-old step brother to death at Lahana village under Ratu police station in Ranchi district.

Dhanbad man gets death for raping, killing minor (Jharkhand)

Dhanbad: A local court in Giridih awarded death sentence to a 40-year-old man on Tuesday for raping and murdering a minor girl five years ago. Mathura Yadav had brutally killed the seven-year-old girl after raping her at Baddiha village in Gawan on May 6, 2011. 

The court of the district and sessions judge, V Sunil Kumar Singh, also sentenced Mathura's father, Bhikhari Yadav, to two years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for helping her evidence. The girl's grandfather, Ramdeo Sao, in his FIR on May 7 had said she went to the paddy field with him to graze cattle around 7am. "My granddaughter asked me to get mangoes from the nearest trees. Mathura was sitting close to the field drinking toddy juice. He came and took away the girl and told me that he would mangoes for her," Sao had said in his statement to the police. 

When the girl did not return in the evening, her family started searching. They found her body near a borewell that was owned by Mathura. Her throat was slit and her face disfigured. The investigating team later found her blood-stained clothes, a knife and an axe near the crime scene. "On the basis of circumstantial evidences and statements given by at least 14 villagers, the court held Mathura as the main accused and awarded him death sentence for murdering the girl, life imprisonment for raping a minor girl and rigorous imprisonment for two years for hiding evidences under sections 302, 376 and 201 of the IPC, respectively. 

The court also held Bhikhari accused under Section 201 and awarded him two years' imprisonment and fine of Rs 5,000," said the additional public prosecutor Mahendra Deo. Mathura is in Giridih divisional jail since his arrest in May 2011. His father was arrested on April 9, but he was granted bail on Tuesday, said defence layer Shivkumar Gupta.

Jharkhand court awards death sentence to man in rape and murder case

GIRIDIH (Jharkhand): A 47-year old man was awarded death sentence by a Giridih court for raping and murdering a seven-year-old girl in 2011. Giridih District and Additional Sessions Court Judge Sunil Kumar found Mathura Yadav guilty of the crime that took place at Badidih village. The court also awarded a two-year rigorous prison term to his father Bhikari Yadav for hiding the body in a bush to tamper with evidence. Mathura Yadav lured the girl with mangoes, took her to a nearby forest and perpetrated the crime. He chopped off the head of the little girl with an axe.

Jharkhand HC acquits Chilkari death row convicts

Ranchi, Dec 15 (PTI) The Jharkhand High Court today acquitted all the four death row convicts in the Chilkari massacre case due to lack of evidence. The division bench of Justices R K Merathia and D N Upadhyay acquitted Chhatrapati Mandal, Manoj Rajwar, Jiten Marandi and Anil Ram in connection with the massacre that had claimed the lives of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi's son Anup and 19 other villagers on October 26, 2007. The four moved the high court after the Additional District and Sessions Judge Giridih on June 23 sentenced them to death in the case. The police had filed an FIR against the four accusing them of being Maoists. Marandi's son Anup was among the 20 victims who had been gunned down by Maoists while watching a cultural programme at Chilkhari in Giridih district.
